The Background

Thought my mum mite appreciate this.  This is the background to my blog that I made in Photoshop earlier today.  The these are the colors for our school logo which is a symbol for stereoscoping, a method to turn 2-dimensional images/video to 3-D.
FunFact: This is a seamless image.  A seamless image is one that can be lay next to, on top of, or below without creating a noticeable seam.

Knex, The First Project

Its 9/27/2012 and this is our project, due Monday (10/1/2012) at 8:00am.  Make this Knex helicopter in it's entirety.  That means make all the pieces then build it following the instructions.

We did get some new tools for this project which was really great.  For those who know some basic computer terms, "extrude" was by far the most helpful!  For those who don't know what that means I'll simply put it that it makes things easier and a lot quicker.  Because, that is actually one of the main things we learn here at the school, not so much the software but the workflow.  That actually didn't make sense.. well we do learn the software a lot, like that's all we've done.  But behind that is a workflow that will work for any software in the industry.  And that is what they are really teaching is the workflow.  That's besides the point though.  The project is to make this helicopter.
But... I kinda already finished it!  Which is a great thing because no I have the weekend to relax and catch up on some things!  Pictures are below =)

The First Assignment

It's Tuesday 9/25/2012 and our first project was to model this kids toy which we called "Block and Bead".  "No big deal rite, pff how long do you have to do it?" your probably thinking.  Well its the second day we have used the software (Maya) and... it's due tomorrow... like Wednesday the 26th.  Oh shoot!  What, wait what am I going to do? We learned the tools on how to make it and were given pictures which we could use for reference while modeling it but still.. Tomorrow?  Everyone kinda laughed to themselves a little when he said it expecting him to say "ahh gotchya" but no he didn't haha.  I spent ten hours after school working on this. That on top of the five hours of screen time in class adds up to 15 hours of screen time that day.  I got it done though and handed in for the next day.

Orientation

9/24/2012 is orientation for DAVE School class of September 2013.

---
I'm just going to stop for a second and explain the way that the class year works.  There are four blocks in one year. Each block is 3 months long and you must pass to move on to the next block.  Think of each block as a college year.  You finish one and move onto the next until the fourth year (block) where you graduate.  If all goes well and you passed everything then you should finish the school in 12 months.  So even though its one year I will see 3 classes ahead of me graduate.
---
There isn't much to say about orientation.  It was the usual "this isn't high school" and tour of the place (which consisted of a tour of the entrances to the parks from the back and the cafes).  It was actually a little different now that I remember in that the director was saying how much work there is this year and how much is covered in one day.  One day here is almost the equivalent to a week of normal school so you don't really wanna miss a day.  And actually you cant miss more then three or four a block I believe which makes sense because you would never be able to recover and keep up with the class.  The rest is just boring stuff so that that.

Move'n In

Thought I'd start my first post at the beginning.  Put my things together in my new home for the year while I'm at school, which, I actually don't spend much time in because I'm always at school.  When I am away from school though this is a great place to retreat to and just relax.  The apartment is in a development called "The Sanctuary", a gated community next to Universal Studios.  There is so much to do here but I don't get to much of that at all because like I said I'm in school so much.
